Welcoming Spring with a Trip to the Donkey Sanctuary

As the Spring Equinox arrived, our residents embraced the change in seasons with a refreshing day out in Devon. The long, dark days of winter can sometimes feel never-ending, so we decided to celebrate the arrival of spring with a trip to the Donkey Sanctuary and a visit to the beach. It was a day filled with fresh air, laughter, and plenty of sunshine—a perfect way to shake off the winter blues.

There was still a slight chill in the air, but that didn’t stop us from making the most of the day. Everyone wrapped up warm, and the sunshine made all the difference. The Donkey Sanctuary was a highlight, offering a peaceful setting where residents could meet and interact with the gentle donkeys. Many of our residents reminisced about their own experiences with animals over the years, sharing lovely stories about pets and farm life from their younger days. The donkeys had soft noses, a friendly nature and were more than happy to receive some attention. There were lots of smiles as residents stroked and chatted to them.

After spending time with the donkeys, we took a scenic drive to the coast and stopped for a picnic. Sitting by the sea, breathing in the fresh salty air, and listening to the waves was a moment of pure relaxation. Some of our residents commented on how much they had missed being by the seaside, and it was a joy to see everyone so engaged and happy. Hot drinks, delicious snacks, and good company made it a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Outings like this are extremely important for both physical and emotional well-being. Getting out in the fresh air, feeling the warmth of the sun, and spending time with animals can have a huge positive effect on mood and energy levels. It was a wonderful opportunity to socialise, share memories, and look ahead to the brighter days of spring and summer.

As we made our way back home, there was a real sense of contentment. The outing left everyone feeling uplifted and excited for more outdoor adventures in the months ahead. With longer days and warmer weather on the way, we’re already planning our next trip!
