Care Questions

At Thornfield Care Home, we provide care for residents with various medical conditions, including:

  • Dementia/Alzheimer’s

  • Mental Health Conditions

  • Physical Disabilities

We provide comprehensive support for residents’ well-being, addressing personal care, mobility, and medical needs. Our luxury facilities and engaging activities promote mental, physical, and emotional health, allowing residents to socialise, learn new skills, and continue hobbies. We encourage autonomy, empowering residents to live their lives the way they choose.

Residential Care offers 24-hour live-in support for personal care needs, while Nursing Care also provides 24-hour assistance with additional medical support from registered nurses, available day and night.

Our care plans are personalised for each resident and are regularly reviewed to meet their evolving needs. As health and well-being change over time, we ensure care plans adapt accordingly. We collaborate closely with residents and their families to create a care plan that best suits their individual preferences and requirements.

We offer respite care at Thornfield Care Home, providing temporary support for individuals recovering from illness, injury, or surgery, as well as for full-time carers needing a break. Before admission, we assess each person’s care needs and determine an appropriate stay duration.

We offer compassionate palliative care to those nearing the end of life, ensuring comfort and support for both the individual and their loved ones during this challenging time.

We require a 28-day notice period for any resident receiving long-term care who plans to move out of Thornfield Care Home. Our dedicated team is available around the clock to assist with the transition and answer any questions you may have.

Care during Covid-19 Questions

During an outbreak, risk assessments may be conducted, potentially affecting visiting arrangements, admissions, and communal area usage. We collaborate closely with local and national agencies following relevant guidance. For more details, please contact our Home Manager directly.

When transferring from another care home or the community, isolation is not required if circumstances are known. If symptomatic or exposed to COVID-19, residents should isolate and take two LFT tests (day 0 and day 2). Positive cases must isolate for 5 days, and can return to normal activities if well and fever-free. Those unable to test must isolate for 5 days. Residents who test positive should avoid contact with vulnerable individuals for 10 days.

Our aim is to ensure safety for residents, staff, and visitors by adhering to government and sector guidelines. We maintain clear protocols, regularly review procedures, and provide accessible information to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Our leadership team ensures flexibility in addressing ongoing risks, with clear roles and responsibilities for everyone involved.

From 14th September 2022, face masks are no longer mandatory when visiting care homes. However, if you prefer to wear a mask, you are welcome to do so. There may be occasions when masks are requested, such as during an outbreak at the care home.

Facilities Questions

Residents are encouraged to bring personal items, such as photographs, decorations, and smaller pieces of furniture, to make their rooms feel more like home. It’s the personal touches that often make a room truly special.

Yes, we have a professional hairdresser who regularly visits our salon, offering residents the opportunity to enjoy hair treatments and feel their best.

Our chefs provide a varied seasonal menu that accommodates all dietary needs, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Snacks and beverages are available throughout the day, and meals can be served in the dining area, residents’ rooms, or outdoors in the garden during warmer months. Residents can also enjoy time with loved ones in the private dining room.

Thornfield Care Home offers a variety of on-site amenities, including a hair salon, cinema room, dining areas, café, private garden, library, and an activities programme. These facilities are designed to help residents engage in their interests and hobbies, promoting overall well-being.

Finance Questions

After a resident passes away, their Care Agreement will be cancelled, and all associated expenses will be settled. Housing fees will be covered for up to 10 days after the death or until the residence is cleared of personal belongings. We understand this is a difficult time, and we are committed to treating residents’ families with the utmost respect and support throughout the process.

The cost of your stay at Thornfield Care Home is unlikely to change if your circumstances and care plan remain stable. However, if there are any changes to your condition, your fees may be adjusted to reflect the need for additional care and support. If this happens, your care plan will be updated to accommodate any new requirements.

Yes, prospective residents can schedule a trial stay at Thornfield Care Home for a 4-week period. This allows you to experience life here temporarily and make an informed decision about moving in permanently. It’s a great way to see if our home suits your needs before making a long-term commitment.

You may be eligible for Local Authority or NHS funding, such as Funded Nursing Care or Continuing Health Care, depending on your circumstances. Before exploring funding options, we highly recommend seeking independent financial advice, either online or from solicitors and authorised channels, to ensure you’re making the best decision for your situation.

Your weekly fees cover accommodation, all meals, drinks, snacks, activities, and the use of in-house facilities, including local excursions (some may incur extra charges). Care and support are included, but additional medical services, like dental care or chiropody, may cost extra. We aim to accommodate all requests, but some may carry additional charges. For more details, please contact our team directly.

Care home fees are based on an individual’s income and assets. The Government has a system to assess what people can afford, considering their income, savings, and assets like property. If someone’s financial situation is below a certain threshold, they may qualify for assistance from the government. For more detailed guidance and assistance, feel free to contact our team, and we’ll be happy to help explain your options.

If there’s a gap between the amount your local council covers and the care home fees, a family member or another person can step in to cover the difference. We understand that finances can be a concern, and we’re here to help guide you through these options. Feel free to speak to us if you have any questions, and we’ll work together to find a solution.

If financial challenges arise, we’re here to help in any way we can. We can discuss different finance options or even help you move to a smaller suite within the home if needed. Our goal is to ensure that everyone gets the care they need, without financial stress. Feel free to reach out to us anytime, and we’ll work together to find a solution.

When it comes to paying for care home fees, there are a few options. If the person has eligible care needs and limited financial resources, the local authority might step in to cover part or all of the cost. Some may also qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare if they need full-time nursing care. If the individual has enough savings or income, they might need to cover the fees themselves. It’s also possible for family members to pitch in. If you have any questions about your options, it’s best to chat with a financial advisor or care home team.
